Shelly and I "Griz" met in September of 2001. As I learned of Shelly's history of good quality home style cooking and service in the restaurant business and her first location in Hesperia, which was in this obscure location called Old Town from 1984 to 1996. Shelly had moved the Restaurant to Victorville due to the Old Town Building in need of major repairs. At that time I did not know the history of Hesperia and why this building was placeed in such an out of th way location. In 2002 she was asked to re-opened Shelly's Place Old Town Restaurant right next door to where she had her first Restaurant in the old western style building. We agreed, but little did we know what would evolve from there. With me being retired Air Force and careers as a steel worker, teacher and law enforcement, I did not have much experience in the restaurant business. So when I was there, I would do the bookkeeping and greet customers. Customers would ask questions about Old Town and Hesperia that I could not answer. So digging in and learning about Hesperia's History began. As I got more into it, people would bring me things and ask more question. This is where the Hesperia Old Town Museum Collection started. The Collection grew to a display in our 3rd dinning area and you could have breakfast or lunch in the Museum Room. The Collection continued to grow to what it is today, doing Presentations, Geocaching, developing interactive learning activities and more.
